My Son

This is Solomon, my 11 year old son.  He is a loving, compassionate, intelligent, obedient, talented young man.  He is a joy to parent and to teach.  We are 8 weeks into his 7th Grade Homeschool Year and he is doing very well in all his subjects, which include: Bible (Bob Jones New Testament Studies, Scripture Memory, Reading through books of the Bible), English (Grammar, Writing, Spelling, Reading), Mathematics, History ('Famous Men of the Middle Ages' ), Science (Human Biology), Biblical Greek, Music (Basic Theory, Guitar and Piano), and LOTS of supplemental reading on a WIDE variety of topics!

This past summer, Solomon stayed home instead of travelling all over the country.  He enjoyed 3 weeks of fun-filled Summer Camp at the YMCA, thanks to his Granny and Grandpap Boardman, who enrolled him.  Then, he was blessed to spend the entire month of July with my parents.  He enjoyed his time there and I'm so thankful he has a close relationship with them.

Usually, we start out our school year by attending the Sovereign Grace Bible Conference the first full week of August.  Unfortunately, this year they moved the conference to Tennessee, so we missed that blessing.

After about 5 weeks of class, Solomon enjoyed a 2-week trip to Nashville, TN where he visited with his Dad & Tobie, and his little brother & sister -- Noah & Gabbie.  He was no doubt given a few licks by his dogs Soco & Bubba.  Plus, he got to go on a short RV trip with his Granny & Pop Halliburton.

Solomon's hobbies are: reading, roller-skating, building and creating things with Legos, K'nex, & Linking Logs (maybe an engineer in the making), swimming, riding his bicycle and/or scooter (weather permitting), practicing his guitar (on which he is becoming quite skilled), playing his Nintendo DS (gift from Granny & Pop Halliburton), coloring, watching movies, and listening to audio-books.  He also really loves to play in the snow -- for hours and hours!  I have to make him come in to drink some hot chocolate because I'm afraid he'll turn into an ice block!  And, Solomon loves to put on an old T-Shirt and swimming trunks, and then ride his bike through all our neighborhood's gigantic puddles when it rains for a while. Let see...he also really loves camping out in the backyard and spending sweet time with his great-grandmother, whom we lovingly call "GG".

Solomon is widely travelled for his age.  He's been to the following states: KY, TN, OH, IN, FL, GA, TX, AZ, OK, NM, AR.  He's flown by himself to and from AZ 3 times, and to and from TX once.  He flew to TX with me when he was only 3 months old!

On a travelling note, Solomon dreams of owning his own RV someday.  He tells me his kitchen cabinets/refrigerator will contain nothing but Reese Cups, macaroni & cheese, milk, and maybe some carrots! Here are some random favorites...

Solomon's favorite outing is the library where he excitedly pours over the shelves searching for new treasures to read each week.  He has a vast number of interests and can't wait to get on the computer to search for information topics he's been pondering.   I think he reads an average of 3 novel-sized books and several random picture/informational type books weekly.  Soon he'll start the Capt. Jack Sparrow series, which he'll check out from Granny Boardman's personal library.  It's a 12 book series that he's been looking forward to for a while. We also do lots of biographies -- I love biographies and think he enjoys them as well.

Solomon's interest in knights, battles, and armor have sparked his  desire to read through Joshua & Judges this week.  He is drinking in all the battle scenes and stories there in God's Word.  I pray the Lord uses this interest to continually draw Solomon to the Scriptures, and ultimately to Himself.
